Tour itinerary for 19 days Southern Gobi, Central and Northern Mongolia
“ Adventure in Southern Gobi desert, Central and Northern Mongolia”
DAY 1. BAGA GAZRIIN CHULUU AND GRANITE ROCK ZONE
We will start of the trip from Baga gazriin chuluu is a series of granite rock formations located in 60km north-west of Middle-Gobi province, a local administration unit. The place is a home to many wild animals like deers, gazelles, antelopes, ibex, and wolves. The ruins of a small monastery is on the south east part of this rugged area. Explore the granite rock zone. Overnight stay in a ger with the nomad family.
DAY.2 WHITE STUPA AND TSAGAAN SUVARGA
This is a colorful limestone rock in Ulziit sum, a local administration unit. The rock is about 30 meters tall and shaped uniquely because of natural erosion caused by wind and water. Locals have long venerated this mountain (have so much fear and) respect for it that they refrain from saying its real name. They call it “Tsagaan Khairkhan” the “White Darling” instead when they are at this place. Overnight stay in a ger .
DAY.3 YOL VALLEY AND THREE BEAUTIES OF GOBI
Yol , named after a vulture , is a deep and narrow gorge in the sub range of the famous mountain “The three beauties of Gobi”. Short trekking through the gorge. The valley is beautiful with impressive canyons green land and little pond. Wild and rare animals such as ibex, wild sheep, fox , antelopes, snow leopards are seen sometimes.Trekking through the gorge Horse-riding is optional as well. Overnight in a ger camp nearby the gorge.
DAY 4 .KHONGOR SAND DUNE
Drive to the sand dunes of Khongor. Camel riding along the dunes. The two-humped camels are very comfortable to ride, as they walk slowly and gently and we will be well supported by the humps, sitting comfortably between them. Our camel man will take us to the sand-dunes. Visit to Nomads Family. Interaction with local nomads.
After dinner , hiking to the dunes to see the sunset and the panoramic view from the top- endless vistas across a sea of daffodil-colored sand. The dunes extend for 185 kilometers and include dunes that can reach 240 meters in height. Overnight stay at Ger camp.
DAY.5 FLAMING CLIFFS AND BAYANZAG
One of the famous places is Bayanzag, Ancient Sea bed which excited 60-70 million years ago where a lot of Palentological findings have been discovered. The place is known as Flaming Cliffs so named by Roy Andrew Chapman American explorer, who had visited Mongolia in 1920. During the 2 years he searched through the Mongolian Gobi Desert and he found Dinosaur fossils from Bayanzag, Nemekht Mountain. He brought his palentological findings on 70 camels. Chapman presented Mongolia one large skeleton on show in the Ulaanbaatar Natural History Museum. He discoverd to the science, about 10 different kinds of dinosaurs and eight of them were found from Mongolia.
“The Flaming Cliffs and Bayan Zag – saxaul forest is situated around 85 km from the Gobi Gurvan Saikhan national park. Overnight stay at tourist camp nearby flaming cliffs.
DAY 6. ONGI MONASTRY/ ONGI RIVER AND NOMAD FAMILY
Early morning drive to Ongi monastery. Discover the ruins of Ongi monastery and its site. There is a ger museum which contains items found in the site of monastery that was actively operating until 1939. Nature in this area is beautiful with rocky mountains, Ongi river and trees. It is also a good spot for bird watching. . Hiking to the rocky mountains is optional. Overnight stay in a true nomad family.
DAY 126.96.36.199 ORKHON VALLEY AND ULAAN TSUTGALAN / EIGHT LAKES/ HORSEBACK TRIP
We will visit Uurt gorge, Orkhon river, and the Red waterfall in Orkhon valley.
The red waterfall is situated in historically significant Orkhon valley, whose river flows an incredible 1120 km to the north before it joins the Selenge river. Also called Ulaantsutgalan, the waterfall was formed by unique combination of volcanic eruptions and earthquakes about 20000 years ago. Learn about their unique lifestyle and culture . We will make a horse trip for 2 nights and 3 days to the Eight lakes , There is an opportunity to fishing and hiking. Overnight stay in a tent nearby Eight lakes and Waterfall.
DAY 11. TSENKHER HOT SPRING AND HOT SPA
After breakfast drive to Tsenkher hot spring. It is one of the biggest Mongolia’s hot springs has a temperature of 86 degree with flow rate and high alkalinity and relatively high amounts of fluoride. The hot spring is especially good for skin allergy. We will relax in Hot spa for the whole day. It is a good treatment after a long horse-riding and a long driving Gobi trip. Overnight stay in a Ger camp.
DAY 12.13 WHITE LAKE, KHORGO VALCANO
Early morning drive to Khorgo Terkhiin tsagaan nuur National Park. On the way we will see Chuluut gorge. Extinct volcanic craters, pine-clad lava fields and the occasional herd of grazing yaks, the Great White Lake, as it’s known in English, is the natural highlight of Arkhangai province. There is an opportunity to hiking and horse riding. Overnight stay in a Ger camp.
DAY.14 SHINE- IDER SMALL VILLAGE NOMAD FAMILY
Today we will visit a true nomadic family. The purpose of the stay at a local family is to experience the true culture of Mongolian nomads. You will see how they herd animals, make dairy products, and traditional clothes You are welcome to play traditional games, have Mongolian supper and interact with the nomads and ask any question you have. Stay near by Shine- ider small town Overnight in a Ger.
DAY.15.16 KHUVSGUL LAKE / BLUE PEARL OF MONGOLIA /
Today we will drive to Lake Khuvsgul. The lake is 136km long and 36km wide ,260 meters deep , at 1645m above sea level. It is second largest lake in Mongolia as well as the deepest. It is known as the Blue pearl of Mongolia, because of its crystal clear water. We will make horse riding trip around the lake to visit reindeer family to inroduce their unique lifestyle and kind hospitilaty .
There is an opportunity to hiking ,to ride a horse, to raft, taking a shower and washing clothes. We will meet with the Reindeer family to explore their unique life style and culture. Overnight in a Ger camp.
DAY.17 URAN TOGOO UUL / DEAD VOLCANO MOUNTAIN /
Today we will drive to Bulgan province and Uran togoo Uul. The first is around the Uran crater. Which is 500-600 meters wide and 50 meters deep. Nearby another protected area takes in the Tulga Craters, whose shape is reminiscent of the three stones placed around the health in a ger (traditional residence) Mount Togoo (1.620m) and jalavch (1.560m) are located 12km south of Mount Uran. Overnight stay at Ger camp.
DAY.18 AMARBAYSGALANT MONASTERY
Today we will drive to Amarbaysgalant monastery. The Amarbayasgalant monastery is one of the three largest Buddhist centers in Mongolia, is located near the Selenge River in the Iven Valley at the foot of Buren Khan Mountain. It was built between 1727-1736, without the use of a single nail and no roof. We will introduce to you Mongolian Buddhist religion. Overnight stay at Ger camp.
